Xigou Stone Forest
Situated in Nanping Village, Luota Township, Xigou Stone Forest covers an area of about 3.2 km2. It is distributed individually or as a group, with various shapes, such as sword, curtain, column, people, beast, etc., looking like a beautiful forest. On the top of cluster or individual stone forest often grow ratten plants with luxuriant branches and leaves, which constitute a unique scenery.

Apart from Luota Stone Forest, there are other two types of stone forest in the geopark: 1) Longtan and Tuzha stone forests, which are located in Changtanhe Township, Baojing County, and developed in argillaceous limestone and argillaceous banded limestone in Aoxi and Chefu formations in the Third series of the Cambrian system, which look dark; and 2) Balieji Stone Forest, which is situated in Dianfang Town, Longshan County, and developed in limestone mixed with malstone in Jialingjiang Formation in the middle-Triassic system. They are greyish white and have small area. These stone columns are densely distributed, which are generally 5-10m high (the highest will be 30m), with a diameter of 1-3m. Due to the constraint of different factors and conditions, such as stratigraphic lithology, structure, land surface and underground dissolution and the landform parts of the stone forest, their shapes vary a lot. The commonly-seen shapes include: sword, column, cone, tower, stone tablet, wall, plate, screen an cluster, etc. , which look like people or objects and are all lifelike.
